artist statement
As an artist, I am interested in creating work that embodies particular aspects of consciousness such as awareness and attention and makes them available, viscerally, to the viewer. I see my paintings as a sensitive space where the movement of subtle colour forms is triggered by a sensitive observer. The painting appears to be flat and simple at first but only within a minute, the eye will start perceiving subtle differences. The layers will appear to be projecting and receding, releasing an inner glow. Attention and awareness of the viewer are the essential ingredients of my work. Attention brings out the light that is just beneath the surface and awareness establishes the communication between the observer and the painting.
